NASA should focus on financing fundamental new technical capabilities in order to build a long term tech stack. Rather than social (work) programs like the SLS, that clearly have no future. This is so broken. Expensive one-time rockets didn't work decades ago, and they don't now. For the same reasons. In fact, just as the US faced a debt crisis back then (Vietnam war and going off the Gold standard), so does it now (high interest rates and spiraling out of control debt). So the results can be expected to be the same. No one seems to have the guts to actually pull the plug.
